The above categories will all become links over the next few weeks! I'm slowly integrating material from mspowell.com with the new site:
updating the links, adding to previous info,
and correlating ideas with those in the book. This process should be completed by May 2009. Make sure you're signed up for the Yahoo Group to receive emails about site updates.
Join The Cornerstone For Teachers on Facebook! I created the page to stay connected to all of you using The Cornerstone Resources. I have had the privilege of developing lasting friendships with many site visitors through our online communication, and Facebook is one of the most powerful tools for continuing this. I love finally being able to see your profile pictures and put names with faces!
Twitter is a social networking/micro-blogging tool in which every 'tweet' is 140 characters or less, similar to a Facebook update. (Click here to view my Twitter page if you can't see the preview below.) I use it to share educational resources (and some random thoughts), and to keep up with new developments in the field. Twitter is free, fun, easy, and requires only as much time as you want to invest.
COMING SOON! NBPTS is a major challenge that's definitely worth taking on! Staying organized will help you keep your sanity. Learn how to prepare in advance and manage your time, keep your files in order, and prepare for the AC. You'll also find downloadable forms to help you analyze your teaching videos and select the most relevant sections to submit.
Welcome to the Site!
Believe it or not, the old mspowell.com website is
now five years old! As you've noticed, things are certainly new and improved around here!
I'm excited to introduce the new Cornerstone collection of inter-related print and online resources. When you're looking for support in your teaching practice, there are now EIGHT different formats you can choose from:
*The website you're on
*The book
*The blog
*The devotions
*The yGroup message boards
*Facebook
*Twitter (a micro-blog)
*Cornerstone-approved Amazon resources
Of course, I'm also available for staff development and one-on-one mentoring (see the Events page).
More ideas are in the works (and I'm definitely taking suggestions). I'm looking forward to some exciting changes in the coming months (including my last name, which will shortly become Watson!).
So, enjoy the transition and this period of growth as we journey through another school year together...
:-) Angela
Downloadable Forms from the Book
Looking for resources mentioned in "The Cornerstone"? You can download and modify each of the forms you see! I've assembled all the links on one page for quick reference.
To access, login with the username 'download'. Your password is the last word in the book (on the Afterword page). The downloads page will open in a new window.
Get Stuff for Your Classroom!
Throughout the site, you'll find recommended resources available for purchase on Amazon. THESE ARE ALL ITEMS I HAVE USED and am personally familiar with. I may not have read every page of every book, but I've carefully selected each product you see here.
When you click through from this site, a portion of the sale benefits this site, at no additional cost to you. Typically I earn 6% of all sales, so your purchases definitely make a difference! It's a win-win situation. Thanks for supporting the site, and enjoy the awesome resources Amazon provides!
Don't Miss the New Blog Posts!
Finding and creating high quality teacher resources for this website is quite a challenge! So, I try to limit the amount of information I add and focus on maintaining a professional reference tool. At the same time, I want to keep things fresh and provide new ideas, especially for those who have been following the site for years.
That's why I'm so excited to share my ongoing collection of ideas at The Cornerstone Blog! It's a fun, informal place to read my latest reflections on classroom life, find out about new products and websites, and stay updated on education news. There are also a lot of humorous anecdotes and snarky commentary, plus the infamous LOLcats go to skool feature. Visit the blog and subscribe to have new posts arrive by email!
My favorite posts are found in the following categories:
Fabulous Resources: These posts showcase my latest findings on the web: new sites, products, and other great stuff for your classrom.
Rants and Reflections: A showcase of my thoughts on various topics in education: creating 21st century learners, the internet vs. "real reading", resolutions, and more.
COMING SOON! I've been taking classroom photos since 2003...and I've been in a different room almost every year! You'll get lots of ideas from looking at my pictures, but I've got some great shots that website visitors have submitted. Check out how K-6 teachers in schools across the country have arranged their rooms...and submit your own for inclusion on the site!
